What is Sex God’s Way?
This is an important question because we are daily bombarded with misinformation and perverted ideas about sex and human sexuality. Thankfully, God did not leave us in the dark and He gives us clear guidance in His Word regarding His view of sex. The book of Genesis sets forth important, foundational truths which highlight key elements of Sex God’s Way. These key elements include:
Heterosexual intercourse– sexual intercourse between a man and a woman
Marriage– lifelong covenant union
Sexual monogamy– faithfulness to one sexual partner
Heterosexual intercourse (male and female sexual intercourse) Gen.1:28- And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth,……… First and foremost, Sex God’s Way is a heterosexual transaction. In other words, sex was originally designed to be experienced between male and female. This is abundantly clear from Gen.1:28.
After God created mankind, He blessed them with the gift of sexual intimacy and reproduction. The command to “be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish” plainly designates male and female unions because this blessing carries a Divine expectation for the production of children (fruitful, multiply, replenish). Only heterosexual (male-female) unions can produce children. The 2nd key element of Sex God’s Way is marriage.
Marriage (lifelong covenant union) Gen.2:24- Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. After God sanctioned heterosexual intercourse, sex between man and woman, He established the institution of marriage. The term wife introduces the concept of marriage, which is a covenant between two, co-equal partners. Marriage offers husband and wife a haven whereby they can both experience lifelong sexual fulfillment and companionship. Therefore, the Divine intent was that all sexual transactions between a man and a woman would be within the confines of covenant marriage. The 3rd key element of Sex God’s Way is sexual monogamy (sexual faithfulness).
Sexual monogamy (faithfulness to one sexual partner)
Gen.1:27- So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
The concept of sexual monogamy has become controversial over the past few years as there is a growing world view that humans, men in particular, are genetically programmed to be sexually unfaithful or to have multiple sexual partners. The prevailing thought is that men are by nature designed to cheat on their wives. The often heard lie is that men cannot be monogamous, even if they wanted to.
However, Gen.1:27 reveals Adam was created in God’s image. This means Adam was originally designed to reflect God’s nature and character. God’s nature is holy (Lev.11:44). God’s character is faithful (Dt.7:9). Since Mankind was created in God’s image, Adam and his offspring possessed the capacity to be faithful and holy. Therefore, mankind was originally created with the capacity to be sexually faithful, or monogamous. Why? Because mankind was created in God’s image which means fidelity (monogamy) was imbedded within our DNA. In other words, if we choose, we have the capacity to be faithful and sexually monogamous.
The fact mankind was created in the image of God, discredits the notion that men cannot live in monogamous relationships. It refutes the often heard lie that sexual infidelity (unfaithfulness) is entrenched in a man’s DNA. In reality, the exact opposite is true because faithfulness and monogamy were a part of man’s original God given nature. There is no excuse for sexual infidelity. The problem is men (and women) do not choose to be monogamous.
In summary, Sex God’s Way can be defined as heterosexual (male and female) intercourse within the confines of covenant marriage between couples who are sexually monogamous.
