So, what’s your rush that you would even consider marrying a man who does not know or serve God? You have heard your Pastor preach on this topic too many times not to know what the Word of God says about it. In case you’ve forgotten, here it is: Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14. Single woman of God, it doesn’t matter how old you are or how hopeless you feel, don’t you want to wait on God for the best He has assigned for you to find you? Or can you wait no longer and are willing to accept anything Satan hands you with the hope that you can one day change him?
At the same time, let me take a moment to remind my married women of God that if your husband does not know God this does not give you a free ticket to leave. The two of you are married and are as one. What the Bible says about this is For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified through her believing husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy. 1 Corinthians 7:14.
You are on assignment for your husband’s salvation. The word of God says: Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives. 1 Peter 3:1. Allow the Christ in you to pique his curiosity in getting to want to know God for himself. Please do not bother with the constant nagging or arguing of telling him what he needs to do. You do know what the Bible says about you nagging, right? God said everything we need to know about is in His word – even nagging. A quarrelsome wife is as annoying as constant dripping on a rainy day. Proverbs 27:15 I am sure we don’t want our husbands thinking that way about us. When you feel like arguing or nagging, let us agree to take it to the Lord in prayer. Walk in faith and believe all things are possible through Christ Jesus.
Here are several things that I believe God used to lead my “husband” to Christ:
*Constantly showing him Christ in me, even when he was undeserving of it.
* My reading of the book Power of a Praying Wife.
*Whenever I wanted to argue with him, I went to God in prayer instead.
*Treating him like my prayers had already been answered.
If he does not love God or look to Him for guidance, how much more can he love you? Who or what is guiding him in his life? If He doesn’t know God, when he doesn’t do what’s right for your relationship or marriage, where would his conviction come? Or would he even BE convicted?
I was mere months in my newfound relationship with God when I married my husband. Somehow I knew that it was not biblical to marry a man who did not know or serve God, yet in my disobedience I still did it. Please take a moment to picture me – right now – screaming to you with a Bullhorn from the roof tops. If you have not yet said “I do” and he does NOT know the Lord? WAIT ON GOD. Wait for HIM to send you a husband. Who knows, it may end up being the same man, but perhaps after he has come to know, Love and serve God.
Listen to me clearly:
I SUFFERED MANY PAINFUL CONSEQUENCES FOR MY DISOBEDIENCE TO THE WORD OF GOD in my marriage. I spent many, many years praying for my husband’s salvation. He was living as the world instructed and I was doing my best to live as God instructed. My husband’s friends were completely of the world and encouraged him to do worldly things. My friends encouraged me in how to grow more in God. During those years I endured and suffered greatly. The Lord blessed our marriage from day one, but there were some “very rough” lessons He had to allow me to learn because I chose to marry a man who did not serve Him. Years later, my husband knows God and serves Him today! We (my husband, daughter and myself) attend church faithfully and continue to grow in God together. Yet even though we’re all fully redeemed on the first day we surrender our lives to God, transformation of the mind is an ongoing process for all of us.
Know who you are woman of God and choose to hear clearly what God is telling you to do. And then? Be Obedient to Him.
I pray that you will look to the Lord for guidance in your every step in Jesus name.
